For Laphroaig Select, the Islay distillery takes whiskey from several different types of casks, including Oloroso Sherry casks, American white oak casks, Pedro Ximenez spiced casks, Quarter casks and first fill bourbon casks. Pretty good selection, what do you say? A casual addition to the main range of Laphroaig single malt whisky.
Nose: Classic, with medicinal peat leading notes supported by citrus, chocolate-sweet and slightly barley notes.
Palate: The peat flavor is present, but it is light and allows the bright notes of lemon, green apples and mint to stand out. Next, darker notes of baking spices develop.
Finish: Medium-long, peat still present until the end.
Summary: It's not full of peat, so it could be just the ticket to the smoky wonderland of Islay.
