Knockdhu Distillery (Gaelic for "black hill of Cnoc Dubh"), based in the Eastern Highlands, is not well known even to connoisseurs.
The distillery's unexciting history is to blame. Since 1894, the distillery has more or less been owned by the same people.
Since InverHouse took over the distillery in 1989, there has been some movement in the history of Knockdhu.
At the request of Justerini & Brooks, the 12-year-old Knockdhu was renamed AnCnoc to avoid confusion with J&B's Knockando.
12-year-old AnCnoc is an exceptionally smooth and elegant malt with only very subtle hints of peat.
Tasting notes:
Color: Rich gold.
Smell: Gentle, hints of honey, lemons.
Taste: Sweet, fruity, complex.
Finish: Long lasting, smooth.
