Amarula is a South African liqueur, the second best-selling after Bailey's. Amarula is made by macerating the pulp of the marula fruit, which is the size of an apple, has a yellow skin and is a kind of cross between a plum and a melon, has a distinct citrus flavor, and the stone is an edible nut. The success of the liqueur in Africa and beyond led the creators to establish the Amarula Trust to help protect endangered African elephants.
